This panorama, taken by Sheila Gjevre, shows a “Sea of Red” as the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team play for another victory in Memorial Stadium. Rich with tradition, Husker fans continue to celebrate the first score of every home game with the release of red balloons into the sky. Since 1923, Memorial Stadium has been the home to Huskers football and, after completion of the East Stadium expansion, it seats over 92,000 fans. Achieving over 800 all-time wins in the NCAA Division 1-A, Nebraska finished the 2010 season in the Big 12 and moved to the Big Ten in 2011. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, chartered in 1869, was one of the first institutions west of the Mississippi River to award doctoral degrees.
